Why does nobody talk about using a moisture meter before painting?

A painter I hired last year told me I was wasting my time painting over wet drywall after a leak. Now I check every wall before I even open a paint can. What tools do you swear by that people overlook?

Moisture meter is one of those things that feels like overkill until you learn the hard way. Had a buddy paint over what looked like dry wall and it bubbled up three days later, total nightmare. Now I won't even start patching without checking the meter first.

@the_john isn't wrong though. Moisture meters seem extra until you get burned. I bought one after my first bubble disaster in a bathroom. Saved my kitchen remodel last year. Now I check everything even if it feels bone dry.
