I used to think a 0.5mm mechanical pencil was fine for everything, but a side-by-side of my old site plan from January and the new one I just finished with a 0.3mm changed my mind completely.
The 0.3mm lead gave me cleaner dimension lines and more precise detail in the title block, which made the entire drawing look way more professional when we printed it for the city permit review last week.

Feel like I just got called out. I've been using the same 0.5 for like a decade, telling myself it's fine. Now I'm looking at my last set of details and the line weights are all mushed together. Might have to sneak a 0.3 into the office and see if anyone notices my sudden drafting glow-up.

That "sudden drafting glow-up" is so real. I did the same switch and it's not just about the lines, it changes how you draw. You start putting in those tiny leader lines and hatch patterns you used to skip because the 0.5 would blob them together.

Sudden drafting glow-up" feels like a strong way to put it. It's just a finer pen, not a magic wand for your skills. The tool matters less than the hand using it.
