My boss told me to always dimension from the same origin point on a complex assembly drawing.
He said it prevents cumulative error, and after a project in Cincinnati where a 0.02 inch mismatch snowballed into a half-inch gap on site, I get it. Do you think this rule is always worth the extra setup time, or are there times where a different method is faster and just as good?

That Cincinnati story is why I'd just do what the boss says.

But what if doing what the boss says gets someone hurt? That Cincinnati story had real consequences. Where do you draw the line?

Yeah, until the boss is wrong.
