Had my cutterhead seize up on me in the middle of a job in Galveston last Tuesday
Pulled up a chunk of old steel cable that wrapped around the shaft and fried the bearings in under 30 seconds, had to call for a barge tow and lost a full day of production, anybody dealt with hidden debris like that before?

Flip it around and think of it as a win. You found that cable before it did real damage to your cutterhead or your dredge pump, which could have cost you weeks instead of a day. That little bearing failure just saved you from a much bigger repair bill down the line, plus you got a free lesson on where the junk hides in that area. I'd call that a cheap price for intel.

Wait, so you're saying getting to play in the mud for a day is the universe's way of giving you a free pass on a catastrophe? lol. I guess that's one way to look at it, but I'd still rather skip the "lesson" next time.

What's the best thing about learning a lesson the hard way - that you actually REMEMBER it for life? I've got a scar on my hand from a wire rope that taught me to always wear gloves, and you bet I never forget those things now. At least you got your cable out without having to explain to the boss why your pump sounds like a coffee grinder full of rocks. Small victories, man.
