Heard a foreman in Savannah say he'd rather hire a greenhorn who asks questions than a vet who won't

It made me realize how much silent pride can cost you on a new dredge. How do you handle asking for help on a site you're not familiar with?

Yeah, that framing is spot on. It shifts the whole thing from being about you to being about the job. You could even ask something like, "What's the one thing this particular machine hates?" Makes it about learning its personality, not your know-how.

Oh that's a really good point from @the_jessica. It makes the question way less scary to ask. So you're saying instead of "am I doing this right," you'd ask about the weird little things, like if their copy machine always jams on double-sided cardstock, or if the coffee maker needs a specific trick to start. It's about learning the local rules, not your own ability. Makes total sense.
