Was checking out the old dredge at the Klondike Gold Rush park in Skagway and noticed they used a crazy amount of wood in the pump housing.

Wow, that's wild! They built everything out of wood back then because it was cheap and easy to get. Makes you realize how much work it took just to run a pump. All that lumber must have been a nightmare to keep from rotting up there.

Honestly though, was it really that big of a deal? They used what they had, and wood was everywhere. Sure, it rots, but so does everything else. Maybe we're just used to things being too easy now. It was just normal work for them, not some crazy hard life.
