My mud pan cracked right down the middle while taping a ceiling in Phoenix last Thursday.
I had to finish the seam with a hawk (which I'm not great with) and now I'm wondering if anyone has a good brand for a heavy-duty pan that won't fail in the heat.

My last pan gave up in Tucson, so I feel your pain. I've had good luck with the Marshalltown deep pros, but your mileage may vary.

What kind of heat are we talking about exactly? My pans sit in the truck bed all day, so they bake in that dry oven from 8am until I need them after lunch. I had a cheap one warp so bad it wouldn't sit flat. Does the Marshalltown hold its shape when it's left in the sun, or do you keep it in the cab?

Oh man, that truck bed oven is no joke. I left mine back there one summer and it got so hot I swear I could have fried an egg on it without turning on the stove. In my experience, the Marshalltown has held up way better than the cheap ones, but I still try to throw a moving blanket over my gear if I remember. It's not perfect, but it keeps the direct sun off.
