Remember when we used to hand mix mud?
I was at a supply house last week and saw a guy carrying a bucket of pre-mixed. Made me think about the early 2000s mixing 5 bags of powder a day. My arms got stronger but my wrist paid the price. Anybody else's joints thank the invention of good pre-mix?

Nah, I gotta push back a little. I honestly think the hand mixed stuff trowels out smoother and grabs better on the first coat. Pre-mix is convenient for sure but I feel like I'm fighting the bucket sometimes to get that right feel.

Holy cow, tell me about it. I remember those days of mixing five or six bags before lunch and just hating life by three o'clock. It wasn't just the wrists either, my lower back would be screaming from all that bending and scooping. The pre-mix stuff really changed the game for the older guys on our crew, they could keep working without needing a break every hour. I still think the hand mixed stuff sets up a bit harder and feels different on the trowel, but my body definitely prefers the easy bucket.
