A retired guy at the supply house changed my view on conduit bending

I was picking up some 3/4 inch EMT in Akron last week and got talking to this old timer. He said, 'You know, a lot of guys fight the bender instead of letting the pipe do what it wants.' I always tried to muscle it into perfect 90s. Tried his 'guide, don't force' thing on a job yesterday and my bends were cleaner and faster. Anyone else have a simple trick that made bending click for them?

Did my buddy ever tell you about the time he learned to mark his kick from the wrong side of the bend?

Yeah, that's a classic way to get a red flag. Seen it happen when someone sets up on the inside of a curve without thinking. The ball sails past the mark because the angle's all wrong. Gotta always set your kick from the outside shoulder, gives you a clear line to the posts. Drill that until it's automatic.
