Changed my mind about those cheap soldering irons after a Tuesday from hell

Yeah those cheap ones are a total trap. They get hot enough to melt solder but the tips are garbage. Mine oxidized in like a week and wouldn't transfer heat. Spent more time fighting it than actually fixing anything. Finally got a decent station and it's night and day. Never going back.

My first soldering iron was a five dollar one from a hardware store, and it was exactly like that. I remember trying to tin the tip and it just turned black and crusty no matter what I did. You're right, you end up just poking at the joint and making a mess instead of fixing anything. Getting a proper station with temperature control felt like a superpower, I could finally focus on the work. It's one of those things you don't realize is holding you back until you upgrade.

Honestly I used to think a soldering iron was just a hot stick. Figured the cheap ones were fine for occasional use. Then I tried to fix a game console with one and completely ruined the board. That's when it clicked that a good tool isn't just about heat, it's about control. Now I get why a proper station feels like a superpower, it removes the biggest point of failure.

Superpower" is a bit much for a basic tool.
