Found a quick way to check a door restrictor on a 2005 Dover Miconic
Instead of pulling the whole assembly, I used a laser pointer from my pocket to see if the beam was broken at the right spot. Anyone have a different trick for this?
Honestly thought those were the same part for years. Karen's right, the restrictor is that metal arm with the roller. The laser trick is still smart, just for a different check. Makes you realize how many little parts have to work together. Good catch on the terms, saves a lot of confusion later.
Read a tech bulletin from Dover that mentioned using a thin feeler gauge for the same job, but the laser pointer sounds way easier. @karenwest is right about the different parts, but it's nice to have a trick that works for both checks once you know the difference. The main thing is catching problems before a call back.
Actually, that's a door detector, not a restrictor. The restrictor is the physical arm that stops the door from opening too far. Your laser trick is perfect for checking the safety eye though.
