I just hit 500 elevator door adjustments in my career logbook and that number kind of blew my mind

That logbook is a secret history of building impatience.

ryan_hart38 nailed it with "secret history of building impatience" - I read some study once that said the average person spends like 45 hours a year waiting for elevators, and that logbook is basically proof we're all wasting our lives on bad design.

Hold on, you actually keep a logbook for that? I can't decide if that's the most dedicated or the most depressing thing I've ever heard. Five hundred times you've stood there waiting for those doors to line up. That's a special kind of patience I just don't have.

Man, it's beyond patience. It's like a weird science project at this point. You start noticing patterns, like the doors are worse on rainy Tuesdays or something. After entry 300, the logbook stops being a record and becomes a kind of angry monument to bad design.
