Borrowed a client's template from 2018 and it still works better than mine

I was at a coworking spot in Austin last month and a guy next to me showed me his pitch template from 2018. It was just a short intro, three bullet points, and a simple call to action. No fancy design or long paragraphs. I copied that structure for my next 10 emails and my reply rate went from about 15% to 35%. Has anyone else tried going back to older style templates and seen better results?

My buddy tried the same thing and his open rates doubled too.

I tried this with a real estate client last year. Their old template from 2016 had just a subject line, three short paragraphs, and a PS. I stripped mine down to match it and saw a 40% bump in replies within two weeks. @river_thompson is right about open rates too - mine shot up because people actually scan short emails instead of deleting them. The trick is keeping it under 150 words and putting the ask in the first sentence.
