Warning: my old payment trick was a handwritten sign, now it's a $29 late fee auto-email
Back in 2019 I had a client in Baltimore ghost me on a $680 invoice, so I taped a sign to my own fridge that said PAY ME and stared at it for six weeks. Now I use a free tool called Wave and it just auto-sends a reminder at day 30, day 45, and day 60 with a 3 percent late fee tacked on. Last month a guy in Tampa paid within 4 hours of the day 45 email, which is wild because the fridge sign never got me a dime. The only downside is I miss the drama of updating the sign. What's your go-to move for a client who goes quiet after you deliver?
My buddy ran a small print shop and had a client sit on a $1,200 bill for almost three months. He finally mailed a paper copy of the invoice with a little note that just said "this one's getting old, same as me" and the check showed up five days later. He swears the guilt trip worked better than any auto email ever did. Now he does the same thing, sends the normal reminder emails but mails one paper copy at day 60 with something dumb written on it.
