A client's comment about her skin last month really made me think
I was doing a facial for a regular, a woman in her late 50s, and we were talking about her routine. She said, 'You know, Sean, I don't need to look 30 again. I just want my skin to look like mine, but happy.' It happened right here in my treatment room in Tacoma. That simple line stuck with me for weeks. It shifted my focus from just fighting signs of aging to really listening to what 'healthy' means for each person. How do you all approach conversations about aging with clients who have this kind of mindset?

Shane's point about clients paying for results is fair, but maybe the "real change" people want is confidence, not just a wrinkle count. That lady saying she wants her skin to look happy is about how it feels, not just how it looks. If someone feels good, they'll keep coming back way more than if they just see a slight line reduction and feel nothing. It's not naive to listen to what they actually say they want.

Couldn't it be that the confidence IS the real result they're paying for?

Honestly, that sounds nice but it's a bit naive. Clients say they want that, but what they really pay for is results. If you're not focused on reducing wrinkles and firming skin, you're just giving them a feel-good chat instead of actual skincare. People come to you to look younger, even if they won't admit it out loud. Chasing this "happy skin" idea seems like a quick way to lose business to someone who promises real change.
