My grandma told me to always cut patterns on the floor, and I finally get why

She said it was the only way to see the whole fabric layout at once, and I argued for years that my kitchen table was fine. After messing up a silk skirt piece for the third time last month, I tried her way on my living room rug. Having that full view stopped me from wasting a huge chunk of expensive material. Anyone else have an old-school sewing tip that actually works?

Oh man, that hits home. I ruined some linen last summer trying to cut on a tiny desk and had the same lightbulb moment. My own grandma swears by hand-basting tricky seams before the machine, and I fought it forever, but it really does stop slippery fabric from shifting.

It's funny how often the old ways turn out to be the best ways.

Grandmas always know best, honestly.

Remember my grandma told me to always soak beans overnight. I mean, she was mostly right, but I read that some beans actually cook better with a quick boil first. Maybe it's just me but I've had mixed results following her advice to the letter.
