Spent $350 on a post hole digger attachment and it saved my back on a long cedar fence job.

I was putting in about 80 posts for a cedar privacy fence in Omaha last month, and the rental place talked me into their new Earth Drill Pro auger head. It cut through the clay and rock like butter, which was a huge change from the old, worn-out one I usually get. I finished setting all the posts in two days instead of four, and my shoulders didn't feel wrecked. Anyone have a different brand they swear by for tough ground?

Honestly, I've had the opposite experience with those new auger heads. They just seem to bind up in our rocky soil worse than the old ones. I ended up going back to the basic rental and just taking more breaks.

Ugh, that sounds rough. I hit the same problem with clay and old roots last season. What finally worked for me was just hosing down the hole a little bit before drilling. It made a sloppy mess, but the wet stuff didn't stick and bind up nearly as bad.

That Earth Drill Pro is just a fancy name for a basic auger with new paint. My buddy in Lincoln had one snap a shear pin on its second use in similar ground. The old gear might be slower, but it's usually more reliable.
