Cracked foundation showed up 3 days after we closed

We bought a 1950s ranch in Denver and everything looked fine during the walkthrough. Three days after moving in I noticed a hairline crack in the basement floor near the furnace. Turned out the previous owners had painted over it and shoved a rug there to hide it. The inspector we hired missed it completely because that area was blocked by boxes. We ended up spending $2,800 on epoxy injection and a French drain install. Has anyone else dealt with sellers covering up big issues after you moved in?

Did you check if the seller was required to disclose that kind of stuff in Colorado? I read somewhere that some states have laws about hiding major defects. That rug thing is so slimy though, sorry you got stuck with that bill.

and honestly i looked into it a little after i saw your post, and colorado actually has pretty strict disclosure laws for things like water damage and mold. my buddy bought a place in denver a couple years back and the seller had to give him a whole packet of past repairs and stuff. i mean that rug thing is such a shady move though, hiding that just to make the sale.
