Just learned how much property taxes can jump after buying
I was looking at a house in Austin and the realtor showed me the current tax bill... it was based on the old owner's lower value. She said the county will reassess it after the sale, and the new bill could be 30% higher. Found this buried in the listing details, not up front. Anyone else get hit with a surprise like that after closing?

My Austin property tax bill jumped 40% after the first year, so always budget for that.

Yeah, a 40% jump is rough. You have to expect it and put money aside each month just for taxes. It's the only way to not get blindsided.
