My inspector found a crack in the foundation I missed
He pointed at a hairline split in the concrete wall in the basement. Said it would cost about $5,000 to fix properly. Anyone else get a nasty surprise on their final walkthrough?

Did they say if it was just cosmetic or actually structural?

Welcome to home ownership, where the house gives you a five thousand dollar handshake right at the start. My inspector found a similar crack, but he called it "character" (which is apparently code for "future problem"). At least yours came with a price tag up front, mine just haunts my dreams.

Got a structural engineer out for a second look on mine. Cost a few hundred bucks but told me it was settled and fine, which let me sleep at night.
