Remember when we used to cut everything with a handsaw? Tried it on a herringbone pattern last week and the angles were all off.

Disagree on the handsaw thing... I still use one for tricky cuts. The key is marking everything twice and going slow. My herringbone came out fine last month, just took forever.

Totally get marking twice, I do that too. I even started using a marking knife instead of a pencil for those herringbone cuts, makes a cleaner line for the saw to follow. It's all about that initial score, stops the wood from tearing out so much. Yeah it adds another step, but for tricky angles it's worth it.

Man, herringbone is no joke. I had to clamp a guide block to get those angles right, like @sullivan.quinn said, going super slow is key. Used a sharp pull saw and it still took me a whole afternoon for one small section.
