Shoutout to the guy who told me to try a 4-inch grout float for tight joints

I was doing a small bathroom floor with 1/8 inch mosaic tile last week and my usual 6-inch float was making a huge mess. Another installer at the supply house said, 'Just grab the small one, trust me.' I was sure it was just a gimmick for more money, but it gave me way more control and cut my cleanup time in half. Anyone else have a simple tool that changed your mind like that?

It's funny how often the right tool for the job is the one you think is too simple. We get stuck in our ways using what's familiar, even when it makes things harder. I see it all the time with people trying to use a big kitchen knife to peel an apple. Sometimes the small, specific thing just works better, even if it feels like a step back.

Wait, you used a SIX-inch float for mosaic?

Feel your pain. I tried a four inch float on a small backsplash once and it was a total mess. The grout lines were all over the place. Ended up redoing the whole section with a smaller tool.
