Rant: My foreman said my pour looked like 'angry oatmeal'

He told me to slow my stream down and aim for the center of the riser, not just dump it in. I started counting to five before each ladle tilt and the surface finish got way smoother. Anyone else get a weird comment that actually helped?

My old boss called my first welds bird poop and told me to watch the puddle, not the arc. That visual stuck with me and my consistency improved overnight. Sometimes the weird insults are the ones that actually teach you something.

Bird poop" would've pissed me off but that actually makes sense now.

Yeah, that's the thing with those old school insults. They're not meant to be nice, they're meant to paint a picture you can't forget. Calling a weld "bird poop" gives you the exact mental image of a messy, splattered bead. It's way more useful than just saying "bad." My first foreman called my cuts "beaver chews" and I instantly knew what to fix.
