Update: A project in Austin fell apart because we didn't define 'final deliverable' in the contract.
The client argued that 'final deliverable' included ongoing support for a year, which cost me nearly $2000 in lost time and extra work, so now I list every single item and revision round in writing before starting anything.

A year of support? Seriously?

Look at how fast tech moves now. A year is barely enough time to get the bugs out. They should be offering two years minimum.

Yeah, for real! Two years should be the bare minimum these days since stuff ships half broken all the time. By the time a product is actually stable, the year is almost up and you're stuck with a buggy mess or have to pay for extended support. It just makes more sense for everyone if companies commit to longer support cycles from the start.
