Pro tip: A simple thank you card landed me a $15,000 referral last month

I was having a slow week, maybe one showing booked, and feeling pretty down. I decided to clean up my client list from the past year and just send out a few handwritten notes, maybe twenty total, to past buyers. I didn't ask for anything, just thanked them for their trust. One guy, who bought a condo in Tempe, called me three days later. His cousin was moving to town and needed to sell a house fast. That call turned into a listing agreement for a property that closed at $450k. The commission check hit my account yesterday. It was a wild reminder that the small, personal stuff can pay off way more than any fancy ad. Has a simple gesture ever brought you a big surprise deal?

Hold up, you said you sent notes to past buyers. That's key. I always send a thank you card right after closing, like within a week. That's the warmest touch point. If I waited a whole year to say thanks, it might feel a bit random, you know? The magic is in the timing, when you're still fresh in their mind. Doing it fast makes it feel more genuine and connected to the great service you just gave them.

The one year mark is actually a great time to send a card, @rivera.hannah. It's not random at all. It's the anniversary of their home purchase, which is a big deal. It reminds them you care beyond just the commission check. Sending it right after closing is good, but hitting that one year date makes you stand out because almost no one else does it. It keeps you on their mind for referrals when their friends start asking about agents.

Exactly. The stamp cost is basically nothing compared to ad spend. I bought a box of fifty nice cards for maybe thirty bucks. Takes ten minutes to write a few. It cuts through all the digital noise because nobody gets real mail anymore.

Twenty thank you cards for a fifteen grand payday is the kind of math I can get behind. Guess I need to buy some stamps instead of running another Facebook ad. What's the worst that could happen, they just think you're nice?
