Was sure Upwork was a total scam but it landed me my best gig

I spent 2 years avoiding it because every post I saw was about fake jobs and lowballers lol. Then a buddy in Denver told me he got a $4k retainer off there so I tried it, and within 3 weeks I had a steady contract editing marketing copy for a startup. Anyone else have a platform they wrote off that ended up working out?

My cousin spent 8 months on Upwork applying to 200+ jobs before she got a single response, and even that one paid $15 for a full day of work. I'd still steer most people away from it honestly.

My friend applied to 150 jobs and got 2 replies that paid less than minimum wage.
