When a client pushed me to use unlicensed music
They wanted to save cash by skipping music licenses for a promo video. I think that's asking for legal trouble, so I stood my ground. Your mileage may vary, but in my experience, cutting corners always bites back.

Wait, they seriously wanted to skip music licenses?

Nah, they tried to get a huge discount instead. Wanted to pay like $150k for a track that usually costs millions, lol. Classic studio move.

Recall that documentary from last year where they used a hit song but only paid for a 'festival license'. Studios love creating loopholes to avoid proper fees. They'll call it a 'student project' or 'non-profit' to lowball everyone. I've heard of composers getting offered exposure instead of cash. It's the same old game of pretending art has no value.

Ever had a client try that cheap move? @oliviabutler is right about the loophole nonsense. I just remind them that getting sued costs way more than a license.
