Update: My home office went from a mess to a real workspace in about 3 weeks
I mean, my setup was just a laptop on the kitchen table for years, and I was always getting distracted. I finally cleared out a corner of my bedroom, got a cheap IKEA desk, and put up some shelves for my stuff. The difference in how much I get done, especially on my writing projects, is crazy. Has anyone else found that just having a dedicated spot, even a small one, made a big change for them?

It's not just about the space itself, it's the mental switch that happens when you walk away from it. My brain used to mix up cooking time with work time at the kitchen table. Now when I leave that corner, my work thoughts actually stay there. It creates a real off switch that I never had before. That separation is what finally let me relax after finishing a project.

Oh man, this is so true. It's like we're all slowly figuring out that our brains need physical cues to switch modes. What @abby_fisher said about the off switch is spot on. I see it everywhere now, like people using a specific mug for coffee only when they're working, or putting on shoes even at home to feel "at the job." It's all about building those tiny rituals around a space that tell your brain what time it is.
