A client's comment about my rates made me rethink everything
Last month, a regular customer told me my hourly rate was way too low for the quality of work I do. They said I was underselling myself compared to other freelancers in Portland who charge double for similar results. I raised my rates by 30% the next week and actually got more inquiries, not less. Has anyone else had a client give them a reality check on pricing?

That client basically did free market research for you which is pretty rare and awesome.

Gotta admit my jaw dropped when you said the client actually told you to charge more. That's wild, most people just want you cheaper not better paid. Must have felt pretty good to raise prices and see more work come in though, proves you were leaving money on the table.

Funny thing, I actually LOWBALLED myself so bad once that a client felt BAD for me and basically forced me to raise my rate. I sat there like a deer in headlights while he told me I was charging "embarrassingly little." Talk about a humbling moment, ha.
