My whole 'digital nomad' setup in Lisbon got fried by a power surge last Tuesday.

It took out my router and external monitor, which basically shut me down for two days. Anyone have a good surge protector they swear by for older European wiring?

Why not just get insurance instead of a surge protector?

Oh man, insurance doesn't stop the fried electronics!

Yeah, the fried router thing is a real nightmare... I read a whole article about how power surges in older buildings can spike through phone lines and ethernet cables too, not just the wall outlets. So @the_ben, insurance might pay for it later, but you're still stuck rebuying gear and waiting for a check... My buddy lost a laptop and his NAS drive that way. A good protector has to cover all the ports, not just the power strip.
