I always used a brush for shellac but a guy in my shop made me try a pad

I was finishing a walnut dresser and grabbed my usual 2 inch brush. My buddy Frank said to try a French polish pad he had, claiming it would lay down a smoother coat. I gave it a shot on one drawer front, and the finish came out way more even with zero brush marks. Now I'm rethinking my whole method for clear finishes. Anyone else switch from brushes to pads for something like this?

My old shop teacher swore by a cheesecloth pad for shellac. It's a game changer for thin coats.

Ever try a pad on a curved surface? I switched for flat panels but a brush is still way easier for moldings and tight corners.

Wait, you're telling me Frank just handed you his personal French polish pad to try on your project? That's like handing over your favorite bar rag to a rookie, no offense. @lee582, I bet you'd have a heart attack if someone touched your pad without asking first.

Wow, pads changed my game too. @finley_smith, I use a small pad for curves.
