Bought a $300 slatwall system and it warped after 3 months

I finally got fed up with piles of tools on my garage floor and installed a slatwall kit from a big box store back in July. The panels started bowing under the weight of just my rakes and shovels, now it looks terrible and I'm worried stuff will fall. Anyone tried the metal pegboard stuff and found it holds up better long term?

I watched a review on YouTube where a guy tested a metal pegboard with 50 pounds of tools for a year and it barely showed any flex. He used the Wall Control brand, which is all steel and has a powder coat finish. That system uses 16 gauge steel, way thicker than the plastic slatwall panels that just press into those plastic channels. Might be worth looking at that instead of rolling the dice on another wood composite setup.

Funny you mention that Wall Control review, because I actually saw a different video where a guy compared it side by side with the plastic slatwall and the metal one held up way better after he dropped a heavy torque wrench on accident. The plastic channel cracked clean through on the slatwall, but the steel pegboard just had a little scuff. Your mileage may vary with the powder coat chipping if you really beat on it, but for pure durability the 16 gauge steel is a no brainer. I've heard from a few folks who use it in their workshops that it stays level even after a few years of heavy use.

My buddy from work tried that Wall Control setup after his old wood pegboard basically sagged in the middle. He told me he hung his whole socket set and some heavy wrenches on it and the thing didn't budge. But here's the funny part, his wife hated the look of it in the garage so she made him paint it a weird teal color. It actually ended up looking pretty good after two coats of rustoleum. The steel pegboard is definitely the right call if you want something that won't warp over time.
