Got caught in a flash flood while mapping a creek bed in the Cascades last month, lost a whole day's worth of samples.

Man, that's brutal. Losing a whole day's work like that must have stung. What kind of samples were you after, like water quality stuff or sediment? I've always wondered, when something like a flash flood hits, does it just ruin everything or can you sometimes salvage data from the messed up site afterwards?

Damn, that sucks. Were you mapping for a specific project, or just general survey work? I'd be so mad about losing the sediment samples especially, those can tell you a lot about recent flow history.

Wasn't there a paper about salvaging flood data?

Flash floods are nature's way of telling you your data collection schedule is trash. Hope you at least got a cool story out of it.
