I finally got the hang of jump rope without tripping every few seconds

It clicked when I started slowing down and focusing on my wrist turns.

The trick to jump rope is to not rush and use your wrists? GENIUS. I bet you feel like you cracked the Da Vinci code or something. Most people just give up and accept their clumsy fate. You're out here doing wrist drills like a PRO. Seriously though, good job not eating concrete anymore.

How long did the wrist thing take to feel natural? @emma_perez1 is right, most people just quit. Took me weeks to stop whipping my own ankles.

That ankle whipping phase is the worst. I'd have red marks for days. What worked for me was slowing way down and doing this boxer step, just shifting weight foot to foot. Made the rope timing way easier. Also shortened my rope a lot more than I thought I needed. Those two things finally made it click.

My cousin spent like two months trying to master the wrist flick thing and still trips constantly. I get wanting to get good at it, but the whole "drill" mentality for a jump rope seems a bit extra. It's just skipping, not a sport you need to train for. People act like you're prepping for the Olympics when you're just trying to not hit yourself with a plastic cord.
