That accountant who told me to stop filing state forms myself

Met with a CPA in Phoenix who flat out said I was wasting $200 a month doing my own multi-state filings. He showed me a stack of penalty letters from clients who tried it and I finally handed over the reins - any of you regret DIY vs hiring out?

Wait $200 a MONTH just for doing state forms yourself? Thats insane, how many states were you filing in?

Hear me out though - $200 a month is actually pretty reasonable for what you're getting. I was filing in 12 states at one point and some of them have really weird requirements that take forever to figure out. Plus you gotta keep track of deadlines for each one or else you get hit with late fees that can add up way faster than that $200. Honestly once you factor in the time you'd spend researching everything yourself, it's not bad at all.

Oh wow yeah I was only in 3 states and it still felt like a lot of paperwork to keep straight.
