Got locked out of my own workspace at 2 AM because I forgot the shared coworking space code changes monthly
Was at that 24-hour spot on Grand Avenue last Thursday, and the manager who usually lets me in had gone home early, so I spent 45 minutes in the cold waiting for another member to show up with the new code - anyone else have a backup plan for after-hours access besides praying someone else is there?

Right on about "praying." I started keeping a spare key with the barista at the coffee shop next door. They close at 10pm but I asked if I could leave it in their lockbox out back since they know me. Also told a couple other members to do the same so now theres like 4 of us with that option. You could try asking the building security guard if they have an after hours sign in sheet or a spare fob they hold onto. Some places will let you leave a photocopy of your ID with them if you explain the situation. Better than standing in the cold for sure.

Did the barista ever say anything about the liability if someone loses the key or gets into a jam with it?

2 of the 4 people who left keys with the barista at @milalewis shop lost them in the first week, and the coffee shop got stuck holding the bag when one of those keys got copied and used to break into a storage unit. The barista never even asked for ID to verify who left the key, so the liability is just sitting on their shoulders now. If a member loses the key or something worse happens, that coffee shop could be on the hook with no fight at all. It sounds convenient but leaving a key with a random business owner who didn't sign a waiver is just asking for a headache down the road.
