The coworking desk I rented had a sticky keyboard from some guy's spilled soda.

Walked into a space in Portland last week. Paid $35 for a day pass and the keyboard was literally sticky. Has anyone else had to wipe down gear before starting work?

Had a friend tell me about this exact thing happening at a spot in Austin. She sat down at a desk, opened her laptop, and her fingers literally stuck to the arrow keys. Turns out someone spilled a whole energy drink over the weekend and the staff just wiped down the outside. She had to use a wet napkin and hand sanitizer just to type.

Yeah that's nasty but honestly not surprising. Coworking spaces are basically glorified dunk tanks for germs. People treat those desks like their own kitchen table and staff never deep clean anything. I've seen gum stuck under desks, crumbs everywhere, mystery stains on chairs. Just bring your own wipes and sanitize everything before you touch it. That's the only way to survive in those places.

My friend Sarah had this happen at a spot in Denver last spring. She sat down and the spacebar made this gross sticky sound every time she pressed it. Took her like 15 minutes just to type a simple email because the keys kept sticking. She finally flipped the keyboard over and a dried up glob of something fell out. Turns out someone spilled a whole Mountain Dew on it and nobody even noticed. She ended up buying her own little keyboard cleaning kit after that.
