Everybody and their mom thinks they know how to sharpen a damn knife wrong
I was over at a buddy's house in Philly last week and he busts out this fancy $200 chef's knife and a cheap pull-through sharpener. I almost choked. He's dragging that blade through at some wild angle and making that awful scraping noise. Look, I don't pretend to be some pro chef or anything, but after 10 years on the fire crew I've learned a thing or two about keeping an edge on stuff. You gotta use a whetstone and keep a consistent angle, like 15 degrees for a kitchen knife. Most people just run it back and forth thinking any friction will do it. That thing was duller when he finished than when he started. Does anyone else just cringe watching people wreck perfectly good blades around here?

A 200 dollar knife through a pull-through sharpener? That's like watching someone put cheap gas in a Ferrari, man. I felt that cringe through my phone screen.

@noahwood hit the nail on the head with that Ferrari comparison. Honestly though, I used to be one of those guys grabbing whatever sharpener was cheapest at the store, thinking it was good enough. Then I watched a buddy destroy a really nice hunting knife and it finally clicked for me.
