PSA: That $30 proposal template pack was a complete waste

Bought a bundle of 20 proposal templates on Etsy last week for $30. Figured it would save me time writing each one from scratch. Turns out every single template was just a generic word doc with different fonts. I spent more time reworking them than if I had just copied my old proposal and changed the names. Has anyone found a template pack that actually works for writing gigs or is it all just fancy formatting?

My buddy bought one of those template packs too and said the same thing. He ended up just making his own from scratch and now keeps a folder of his best ones. That $30 really just bought him a headache.

My friend Sarah went through the exact same thing last year with a resume template pack. She spent a whole weekend trying to make one of them work and just ended up super frustrated because nothing lined up right. She finally gave up and typed her own in Google Docs from scratch, and honestly it looked way better than any of the templates. Now she has a little folder on her desktop with like 5 different versions she tweaks for different jobs. That $40 she spent was basically a donation to someone who knew people would get desperate.
