The day I switched from carpet to laminate in my rental

I had this old carpet in my office that just never felt clean. After three years of spills and stains I finally asked my landlord if I could swap it out for laminate flooring. They said yes and I spent about $600 on materials and a weekend putting it in myself. The difference was night and day right away dust just sweeps up instead of hiding in the fibers. Has anyone else done a big DIY change like this in a rental?

One thing nobody has mentioned yet is how laminate can mess with your deposit if you don't do the right prep work. I swapped out some tile for vinyl planks in my bathroom once and the landlord tried to say I damaged the subfloor when I pulled up the old stuff. Ended up having to show them the original photo I took before I started working. So like did you make sure to document everything with pictures before and after? That $600 could bite you if they decide it's not their style of flooring.

Man that's awesome you got permission to do that. My buddy tried the same thing in his apartment and the landlord flipped out halfway through because they wanted some specific brand of laminate. But for real, the dust thing is HUGE. I have carpet in my bedroom and I swear I could vacuum every day and still find crud in it. Congrats on getting that done for only $600 too, that's a steal compared to what some places charge.
