My Cozumel dive had crazy currents: operator error or diver mistake?
I dove in Cozumel last week and the currents were way stronger than the dive op said they'd be (like, seriously intense). Some buddies say the operator should have warned us better or changed the site. But others think it's on divers to check forecasts and know their limits. What do you all think? Who's responsible when a dive goes sideways like that?

Honestly, shouldn't the dive op have the training to accurately read conditions like that? It's not just about checking a forecast, it's about their on-site judgment to call a dive or pick a different spot if it looks sketchy.

That on-site call can mean the difference between a great dive and a disaster.

Used to think it was all on the forecast.

But what about when forecasts are wrong? Dive ops use them, but Cozumel currents can shift in minutes. @lisab32 is right that on-site calls matter, but even good training can't predict everything. Divers have to know their limits and say so. It's less about blame and more about being prepared for the ocean to do what it wants. So maybe the real mistake is expecting a perfect forecast.
