The $40 mailing scale that beat my hand-counting guess every time

I spent a week eyeballing package weights for a freelance label design job, lost $60 in postage overages, then bought a used scale off Craigslist in Akron and nailed every rate on the first try. Has anyone else had a dumb cheap tool completely rescue a project's profit margin?

Learned that lesson the hard way after gifting my postage mistakes to the postal service.

My first scale was a $15 shipping scale off Amazon and it paid for itself within two shipments of small parts I sell. The trick is weighing everything before you even print the label, not after the box is taped shut. Once I started doing that, my overage losses basically disappeared.
