My water heater died in the middle of a cold snap last week
Came home Monday night to no hot water and a flooded utility closet in Everett. Had to scramble for an emergency plumber and spent $1,200 on a replacement. Has anyone else dealt with a sudden water heater failure and found a way to avoid the rush-job pricing?

Honestly, I sorta disagree with the panic here. $1,200 for an emergency water heater swap during a cold snap sounds like a fair deal to me. Tbh, the real mistake was not having a plan before it broke, not the pricing after.

Fair point. Used to think you should always wait and shop around. But seeing how fast prices jump during cold snaps kinda changed my mind. Plumbers gotta cover their overtime and the rush. You pay for convenience when you're desperate. Better to have $1200 in savings for stuff like this than to freeze.

It took me a while to see it that way too. I used to think paying full price for emergency work was throwing money away, but you're right about the convenience factor when you're in a bind. Having that savings buffer is really the smarter long term play, even if it stings to spend it all at once.
