My sister swears you should never spray oil directly on food in the air fryer, only on the basket.

She says it gunks up the heating element, but I think a quick spritz on the chicken wings makes them crispier. Who's actually right here?

Your sister is lowkey right about the gunk, but a tiny spritz on the food itself is the move. Just don't go crazy with the spray. That aerosol stuff can mess up the non-stick coating over time too. Lightly brush the oil on if you're worried, but crispy wings are worth a little risk.

Man, this is like the whole "just a little bit won't hurt" trap. @andrew_baker9 is spot on about the spray ruining pans, but I see it everywhere. People use "just a spritz" of cleaner on electronics or "a quick wipe" with the wrong cloth, and then wonder why stuff gets ruined. We know the rule but talk ourselves into tiny exceptions that add up.

Honestly that's the whole problem right there. People act like rules are just suggestions they can bend a little. Tbh it's not about the spray itself, it's about the mindset. You make one tiny exception and then it gets easier to make the next one. Next thing you know you're ruining your good pan because you got lazy. The rule exists for a reason.
