Rant: Today's checklists have us forgetting how to actually fix things
Back then, you knew a plane by sound and feel. Now everything's a scan tool and a procedure sheet.

Seems like we're losing touch with basic problem-solving in all sorts of areas, not just with machines. @torres.riley getting hands-on with that truck is a perfect example of why that direct experience matters. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but even cooking from a recipe all the time means you never learn to improvise when you're out of an ingredient. It's the same with following GPS instead of learning your way around a city. We're trading understanding for convenience, and it's making us less able to handle surprises.

Honestly, the GPS thing is too real. I watched my cousin have a full meltdown because her app rerouted, even though she was like three blocks from her own apartment. At some point we're just paying for the convenience of never having to remember anything.

Tell me about it. I forced myself to fix my old truck without the manual once and actually learned what the noises meant.
