Spent half a day tight on a turbine engine stand at LAX
I was doing a routine borescope inspection on a CFM56-7B engine over at the LAX hangar last Tuesday. Got stuck in a weird position for like 4 hours and my back was killing me. Anyone got a good trick for rigging up a small stool or cushion on those stands to make it easier on your spine?

Ever thought about just sliding a beat-up chunk of memory foam car seat cushion under you? I did that once on a tight spot inside a C-130 wheel well. Cut a piece off an old driver's seat bottom, strapped it to the stand rails with zip ties. Gave me about two inches of padding and kept my tailbone from going numb. Way cheaper than buying some fancy aircraft stool, and you can just toss the whole thing in the trash when the oil and grease soaks through it.

Buddy of mine works line maintenance at DFW. He took a piece of plywood and strapped it across the stand rails with bungee cords. Worked okay till he leaned back wrong and the whole thing flipped. Landed on his toolbox. Broke his favorite ratchet.
