My coworker called 'Attack on Titan' a simple revenge story, and it stuck with me
He said the whole show is just about getting back at the Titans, which made me realize I'd been ignoring the political stuff in the middle seasons. Anyone else feel the later arcs get too much hate for being complex?

Oh man, I was totally that coworker at first. I just wanted to see the big fights and get payback for Eren's mom. But then the whole thing with the government inside the walls and who's really in charge... that's what hooked me. It stopped being just a monster show and got way more interesting.

The political stuff is what makes it great, though.

My buddy got so into the political side of a show it ruined his week. He was up until 2am reading forums, getting mad about fictional policy. It was all he talked about. I see what you mean, @robin896, that layer can add a lot. For him though, it stopped being fun and felt like a second job stressing over made up elections. He had to take a break from the whole thing for a while.
