My friend's anime opinions did a total 180 after one weekend
He used to say all sports anime were boring and predictable, but then he binged all 75 episodes of Haikyuu over three days. Now he's texting me about character arcs and volleyball strategies like he's a pro. Has anyone else had a friend completely switch up on a whole genre like that?

Happens all the time... a single show can totally change your mind. My buddy swore off sci-fi until someone made him watch Cowboy Bebop. Now he's deep into space operas and won't shut up about them.

That "single show can totally change your mind" thing is so true, @ray613. It's like your brain just needed the right key to unlock a whole new genre. Cowboy Bebop is a perfect example because it's not just spaceships, it's the style and the feeling that pulls you in. Once that door is open, you start seeing everything you missed. Your buddy going deep down the space opera rabbit hole is the natural next step. It's cool how one good story can rewrite your whole taste.

Honestly I've seen the opposite happen more. My cousin watched Attack on Titan and decided ALL anime was just grimdark shock value stuff. He won't even try a chill slice of life show now. Sometimes that one big hit can actually lock you OUT of a genre because you expect everything else to feel the same. It sets a really specific mood that becomes the whole definition for you.
