Serious question, is the 'sub vs dub' debate really that important anymore?
I was reading a thread last night where people were getting really mad about someone watching the English dub of 'Jujutsu Kaisen'. They said the original Japanese voice acting is the ONLY way to get the true feeling. I watched the first 5 episodes in both, and honestly, the English cast did a great job. The emotion was there, and it let me focus on the fast action without reading. I think gatekeeping how people enjoy a show is way worse than any translation choice. Has anyone else just picked a version based on what's easiest for them and been totally happy with it?

Totally get what you mean about focusing on the action. My buddy tried watching the sub of Demon Slayer but kept missing the crazy sword fights because he was reading the bottom of the screen. He switched to the dub and was way more into it, said the English Tanjiro sounded just as kind and determined. He finished the whole season that way. People getting mad about his choice just seems like a weird hill to die on.

Honestly the dub vs sub fight is so tired... like who cares if someone wants to actually watch the animation they spent millions on. I saw a guy online say watching dub is a crime and I'm just like... okay but you're missing the whole point of the show being pretty. Let people enjoy things how they want.

Right? It's just a show, let people watch it how they want.

Look, I'm the guy who watches home renovation shows with the sound off and subtitles on because I can't stand the fake drama. My point is, I have no room to judge how anyone watches anything.
