Heard two grad students arguing about the new dating for the Jericho walls
I was at a cafe near the university and these archaeology students were really going at it. One said the new carbon dating pushes the walls back to 8000 BC, which means they're way older than we thought. The other argued the method is wrong because the sample came from a repair layer, not the original build. They mentioned a specific journal article from last month, 'Science Advances' I think. It got me thinking about how much we trust these new tech methods versus old school digging notes. Has anyone read that paper and have a take on which side is right?

Honestly, who cares if the walls are a few thousand years off?

Those grad students need to get a room, or at least a better carbon sample.

My cousin worked on a dig in Turkey where they found a coffee cup from the 90s three feet down. The site lead just quietly reburied it.
